Artist DAVID STANLEY HEWETT has been interested in Japanese culture since his childhood in New York City through karate and pottery. He majored in Japanese history at the University of Massachusetts and first came to Hokkaido as an exchange student in 1998.
Now a famous artist with a permanent residence in Japan, he works with architects, designers, and top brands in the world. And, while working hard in the daily production activities, there is also a strong desire to contribute to the further development of Japanese art and artisan technology.
In 2008, the belt personally designed by Takashimaya set a record for the most annual sales, and was selected for the Elegant (Kyoto). In 2017, Majime was selected by Akie Abe, the wife of the Prime minister, as a gift for First Lady Melania Trump, and it was collected by the National Archives in 2019.
Many other works, led by hotels (Imperial Hotel, Oak Heights, Tokyo, Oak Hotel, thepeninsula, Tokyo, etc.), are owned by individuals, corporations, and public places around the world.
One of the most high-profile events at the moment is a collaboration with major manufacturers of the world's top brands. In 2018, the wine glasses and bottles designed by Lidl, which received the highest evaluation from wine experts in the world, were sold out.
