    Company history

    Founded in December 1944, Kia Motors was formerly known as Kyungsung Precision Industry, located in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, and relocated to Busan during the Korean War. The entire plant is equipped with stamping, welding, painting, final assembly and engine shop and other complete vehicle production facilities. In addition, the production line equipment of the second factory is all purchased through international bidding, which considers the cost control factors while more effectively ensuring the advanced production technology. The rational layout of the facilities between the workshops and within each workshop also makes the second factory a harmonious and more humane factory.

    The stamping workshop is mainly set up with two 5400 tons of multi-functional presses and one 2400 tons of presses, using a rotating flow mode to organize production. At present, the stamping workshop has a 5400 ton automatic production line, mainly composed of a 2400 ton press and three 1000 ton presses. The equipment foundation of another production line has been completed and will be installed soon. The automation rate of the stamping workshop can be nearly 100%, from the plate cleaning to the workpiece transfer, all completed by the manipulator, which not only ensures the quality of the parts, but also ensures the high efficiency of production, there are 15 workpieces produced every minute. In order to minimize the impact of air temperature on the panels and provide a better working environment for employees, a constant temperature is maintained in the workshop, while anti-noise partitions are installed.

    The welding shop has reached 90% automation and currently has 169 robots, which will gradually grow to 231. The use of a large number of robots will further ensure the welding quality and improve the quality stability. The welding workshop adopts the combined fixture and flexible production line, which can cope with the composite production of 6 models at the same time. Each sub-assembly uses an automated production line and is sent to the next production station through a mechanized conveyor system. The entire production line adopts the advanced technology and quality control mode imported from Kia, and the production level is synchronized with that of the Korean headquarters. In addition, in order to ensure product quality, four robot inspection systems are used in the welding workshop to strictly identify the welding quality of each body and strictly control the quality. Judging from the qualified rate of current trial production, the quality has exceeded the expected target.

    The painting workshop uses a variety of vehicles that can be produced in line. At the same time, in order to ensure product quality, a large number of robots are applied, and the automation rate is close to 100%, especially the robot is used in the gluing process at the bottom of the body. This technology has reached the leading level in China. In the pre-treatment and electrophoresis and other links to increase the number of processes, compared with other manufacturers, these technologies are more comprehensive and more in place. According to the world development trend and in response to the national environmental protection requirements, the second factory will use "water-based paint" to maximize the protection of the environment.     The assembly workshop adopts a flexible production line suitable for the common production of various models, adopts the suitable modules to ensure high quality and the suitable tightening guarantee system. In addition, the workshop has installed a low noise transmission line, labor-saving equipment and working tool track, which creates a harmonious and more humane working environment with a small moving distance of the operator. When the second factory forms a capacity of 150,000 units, the UPH (output per hour) of the final assembly workshop reaches 33 units/hour, and the UPH reaches 66 units/hour when the production capacity of 300,000 units is formed.

    The engine workshop is composed of flexible production lines of high-speed machining centers, and the degree of automation is very high, reaching more than 70%, which is flexion in China.
