Entering the global technology market (1980-1989)

From the late 1970s to the early 1980s, Samsung's diversification gradually increased and its core technology business grew globally.

In 1978, Samsung Semiconductor and Samsung Electronics became two separate entities and also began to offer new products to the global market. In December 1983, successfully developed the 64 kdram (dynamic random access memory, DynamicRandomAccessMemory) VLSI chips, and thus become the world's semiconductor products leader. Until now, Samsung only produced semiconductors for the domestic market.

Samsung Precision Machinery Co., LTD. (founded in 1977) is based on another high-tech sector - aviation. In February 1987, the company's name was changed to Samsung Aerospace Industries Co., LTD. In the mid-1980s, Samsung began to enter the systems development business, establishing Samsung Data Systems (now known as Samsung SDS) in 1985 as a leader in information technology services including system integration, system management, consulting, and network services.

Samsung's increasing emphasis on technology led to another important development in the mid-1980s, the creation of the company's research and development institutes: the Samsung Economic Research Institute (SERI) in 1986, and the Samsung Research Institute of Integrated Technology (SAIT) in 1987. These two pioneering R&D organizations have successfully helped Samsung expand its business even further into electronics, semiconductors, polymer chemistry, genetic engineering, fiber optic communications, aviation, and a wide range of fields from nanotechnology to advanced network architecture.

Samsung Korea Headquarters

On November 19, 1987, Samsung's founder, Chairman Lee Byung-chul, passed away after nearly 50 years at the helm of the Samsung Group. His son, Lee Kun-hee, became Samsung's new chairman. At the Samsung Group's 50th anniversary celebration in 1988, he announced that the company had begun a "second venture" that would lead Samsung's further development into a world-class twenty-first century company.

In 1996, Samsung Group ranked as the world's fifth largest group, including a number of subsidiaries and several other legal institutions, in nearly 70 countries and regions established nearly 300 legal persons and offices, a total of 196,000 employees, a total of 62 subsidiaries, total assets up to 280.8 billion US dollars (2007). From $3.1 billion in 1999 to $16.2 billion in 2006, Samsung's brand value increased by five times. In 2002, Samsung Electronics' market value surpassed that of SONY of Japan. Four years later, Samsung Electronics joined the club of 100 billion dollars. In 2009, the market continued to predict that Samsung Electronics could one day displace semiconductor leader Intel.

From 2001 to the end of 2010, Samsung's semiconductor revenue grew by 355% in 10 years, ranking second in the world, and the market share was only 4.1% lower than that of Intel, the leader. Samsung has nearly 20 products in the global market share to get one.

Start (1938 ~ 1969)

On March 1, 1938, Lee Byung-chul, former chairman of Samsung, established the Samsung Chamber of Commerce in Daegu, Korea with 30,000 won. Mr. Lee Byeong-chul's early business was to export Korean dried fish, vegetables and fruits to Beijing and Manzhouli in China. Soon after, Samsung (literally "three stars" in Korean) had its own flour and sugar mills, which it produced and sold itself. Industrial era (1970-1979)

Throughout the 1970s, Samsung laid the strategic foundation for its future growth through large-scale investments in heavy industry, chemical and petrochemical industries. In August 1973, the company announced a second "five-year management plan" that set goals for these business areas and enabled Samsung to enter the shipbuilding industry. During this period, the company also took steps to enhance the company's competitiveness in the world market by integrating its manufacturing process from the production of raw materials to the production of final products. On the world stage (1990-1993)
