Did you mean:

Gerron Moore first heard about eBay from his late grandmother. She was passionate about thrifting and passed on her love for it to Gerron, who started reselling on eBay as a side hustle. The determination to chase his entrepreneurial dreams and the need for a work-life balance motivated him to become a full-time reseller.

7 Questions with Gerron Moore of Big Dreams

  1.     How did you start selling on eBay?

Some of the earliest memories that I have of my grandmother is how she’d go thrifting and have a garage sale after. People from the neighborhood would flock to her house to find great deals. She once mentioned how she should list the items on eBay—and that got my wheels turning. I did some research and knew that this was something I wanted to jump into. The first item I listed was an extra Xbox 360 console I had lying around—it sold within a week!

  1.     What does a typical day look like for you?

Once I wake up, I spend some time with family, meditate, and pray. After that, I immediately start printing my pick list to ship out orders. Once I’m done shipping, I take product photos and list items. If there's time left, I focus on sourcing or prepping for the next day.

  1.     What does community mean to you and your business?

Community is everything to me. Once you go full-time as a reseller, it can become quite lonely. eBay has helped me connect with other resellers and that’s supported me mentally. It gave me a boost of energy to see that there are others who are on the same journey. And I know that my business wouldn't be where it is today if I didn't have those connections. I think what makes eBay so special is that they're willing to have a relationship with their sellers. I had a chance to go to eBay Open this year, and I realized how important we are to eBay. They don't make money unless we do—so they're all about us being successful.

I also started a YouTube channel recently to share my experience. I want to help other resellers and educate them on different topics—like how they can get better at the craft.

  1.     What advice would you give yourself, if you could go back to when you first started your business?

I’d tell my younger self to stay organized. Keep track of where your inventory is because you don't want to lose stuff when customers have purchased it. I'd also caution myself and others to slow down, do things accurately, and focus on putting forth a quality listing. Make sure your title includes the right keywords based on the brand, gender, size, and other item specifics. This allows eBay to match you with the right buyer.

  1.     What’s your top productivity hack?

I think a draft bank of items is extremely important. The draft bank or queue is a reservoir of products that you've already sourced and prepped, but haven't necessarily listed. Having this gives you some margin in your day or week—especially if you want to take time off.

  1.     What’s your favorite quote—motivational or otherwise? Why?

A quote by Eric Thomas which says, “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you'll be successful.” Success isn't just given to anyone; you must work for it, and it should become a part of your DNA. That resonates with me because I understand the work that is required to reach new heights and have the lifestyle that you want.

  1.     Where do you see your business in 1 year? 5 years? 10 years?

The long-term goal for my business is to have employees helping me out. I want to be able to provide jobs and an income for people. I’ve always had a heart for wanting to see others thrive—and it would be so cool to make that happen by selling pre-owned clothing.
