EDITOR
The curling competition at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics is located in Peking divisional National aquatics center Proceed. 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games Water events were held here. [16] The renovation of the stadium uses a detachable steel structure as the main structure under the ice, and the ice is placed on the light concrete precast slab and the insulation layer. In order to meet the requirements of the curling competition, the lighting and sound environment of the venue have also been changed. [20] After the transformation, the National Aquatics Center, formerly known as the "Water Cube", was transformed into the "Ice Cube", making the National Aquatics Center the world's first "Double Olympic venue" to achieve "ice water conversion". [19] In addition, the supporting building "Ice Cube" ice sports Center, located in the underground space of the South Square of the National Aquatics Center, will serve as a sports experience center during the Beijing Winter Olympics to provide curling experience services, and permanently retain the ice function after the games and have the ability to carry out ice sports throughout the year. [37] 36 -
Before the official start of the competition, the curling track also needs to carry out ice making, painting, wiring and other construction. Several ice makers who serve in the International Curling Competition all year round participated in the ice making work, and the curling track reached the competition delivery standard by January 31, 2022. [50]
After the end of the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, the National Aquatics Center will be open from April 16 to May 15, 2022 with the Winter Olympic scene experience. [268] In the hall, the Winter Olympic image landscape, the grandstand and the curling track were retained, the sports show continued to be staged during the game, and the mascot "continued to work" to restore the "feeling of the game" to the audience. [265] After the tour of the competition hall, the curling track was gradually restored to the swimming pool track. [268-269]

Epidemic impact

On January 17, 2022, in view of the epidemic prevention and control situation, the audience policy of the Winter Olympic Games was adjusted from the original plan to sell tickets for domestic audiences who meet the relevant requirements of epidemic prevention and control to targeted audience attendance. [144]
At the end of January 2022, Swedish media reported that the leader of the Swedish mixed doubles curling team tested positive for nucleic acid. [116] Later, women's curler Sophia Marbergs tested positive for COVID-19. [117]
On February 6, 2022, Australian women's mixed doubles curler Jill was positive for the new crown in the latest COVID-19 test, and was recovered. Jill was infected with COVID-19 before leaving for Beijing, but turned negative on February 2. [111]

Curling for racing

As in many previous Winter Olympics, the curlers used in Beijing are made by the Keith Curling Factory in Scotland, England. For the Beijing Winter Olympics, the Case plant produced more than 190 curlers. At the end of 2021, 96 of these curlers were carefully selected and shipped to China, waiting to serve the athletes participating in the Beijing Winter Olympics. These curlers are made from rocks on Elsa Craig Island. From cutting rough stone to grinding, gluing, hand polishing, etc., the production of a curler goes through about 20 processes. Depending on the needs of the development of the project, technical updates and differences in the ice surface, the design of the curling machine will be fine-tuned. The '2030' curler, specially launched for the Beijing Winter Olympics, has a thicker bottom and a deeper curved side than previous models. [42]
On February 14, 2022, due to technical problems with the curling grip, the electronic front throw line on the curling pot effectiveness test system was no longer used in the competition, and was replaced by manual monitoring. [222]

Pregame music

The piper at the Ice Cube [121]
Curling was born in the Scottish Highlands in the 16th century. As a result, it has become a tradition to play bagpipes before curling events in tribute to the birthplace of the winter sport. Before the athletes began to compete, several pipers in red Scotch tops and tartan skirts played "Scottish Warriors," an ancient tune from the Scottish Highlands. In Beijing, though dressed and played in the quintessential Scottish style, the six musicians are actually Chinese. Several musicians come from all walks of life, including teachers and musicians, who have performed at various music festivals. [121]
