Basic research work in other fields. In 2004 the Association had 80 research institutes, mainly in Germany, covering all areas of basic scientific research and employing 12,000 people, with around 9,000 visiting scholars regularly working there.
[2]
The association is a non-profit legal entity, equivalent to the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The main operational resources are shared equally between the federal Research Department and the state government as a whole. The total budget of the Association in 2004 was 1,250 million

Around. In addition to the institutes, there are affiliated institutions such as the International Max Planck Institute for Research. At present, the society has 84 research institutes and laboratories, of which 4 research institutes and 1 laboratory are distributed overseas, and 17 international research centers are jointly built with top scientific research and academic institutions in various countries. Each research institute publishes a total of more than 15,000 academic papers in international journals every year, many of which are highly cited papers in related fields. It reflects the international influence of German scientific research.
[2]
The Max Planck Institutes are engaged in three main areas of research: biology and medicine, physico-chemical technology, and the humanities. The Max Planck Institutes often cooperate closely with the local university, but remain independent institutions outside the university, the staff of the institution is not responsible for the internal teaching work of the university, and has better equipment and more abundant funding than the university, to maintain its world-class academic status.
