The Shougang Ski Jumping platform was built on the site of Shougang. While most of the previous big jumps were temporary facilities that would be dismantled after use, the Shougang Ski Jump is the world's first permanent single board big jump. Considering its permanent preservation and use, Beijing and the Olympic Organizing Committee quickly focused their attention on Shougang.
The Shougang Cooling Tower, the Ming Lake and the Xishan Mountain skyline in the west of Beijing are childhood memories of many "old Beijing". The design team hoped that in the process of transformation, it could not only meet the requirements of the Winter Olympics and give Shougang new meaning, but also preserve the integrity of the industrial site and retain this precious emotion. To this end, the design team used a number of new technologies, including virtual reality and human factor testing technology, and also invited old Shougang people who have lived in Shougang for 30 or 40 years to help judge what kind of Angle can continue the memory of Shougang industry, and finally determine the construction Angle. The end area of the platform is sunk 5 meters below the surface of the lake, so that the platform as a whole does not appear higher than the cooling tower, but a curve extending from the height of the cooling tower.

The Shougang Ski Jumping Platform consists of three parts: the track, the judges tower and the stand area. The track is 164 meters long, 34 meters wide at the widest point and 60 meters high at the highest point.

The main body of the Shougang Ski Jumping platform is a steel structure, the total length is about 160 meters, the maximum width is 34.141 meters, and the height of the main structure is 49.11 meters.

The two arcs of the take-off point and landing area of the Shougang Ski jumping platform form a curve with rich changes, and the form of the curve gives the big jumping platform an opportunity to express the Chinese element "Dunhuang flying sky". On the flight curve path, the height of the protective net must be 2 meters higher than the height of the air, and the "flying" ribbon form effectively takes into account the role of wind protection on both sides of the jumping platform and support the protective net. The two-section arc streamers are made of special space shaped truss structure, and the tube truss tire frame is set up. Numerical control technology is used to ensure accuracy and reduce consumables.

The main structure of Shougang ski jumping platform adopts prefabricated steel structure system and prefabricated components. The main structure and curtain wall of the center are all metal prefabricated basic components, and the prefabricated component rate of the grandstand and pump house structures reaches more than 87%. At the same time, the design selects high-strength steel and weathering steel to reduce the amount of materials, and the maximum possible use of factory products and reused materials: 4,100 tons of steel for the main structure of the big jump platform, 99.55% of which are high-strength steel, including 637 tons of high-construction (GJD) steel, accounting for 18.3%. The track panel is made of weathering steel 360 tons, accounting for 7.5%; Fire resistant weathering steel is selected for the referee layer of the referee tower, accounting for 2%.
