The 2016-2017 season
On May 5, 2016, Sui underwent surgery to reconstruct the lateral collateral ligament in his right ankle and to restore the tendon in his left ankle, thus missing the first half of the season.
On February 18, 2017, Han Cong and Sui Wenjing returned to win the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships for the fourth time with a record high score of 225.03 points. In early March, Sui Wenjing won the top spot in pairs skating at the national figure skating Championship.
