In September 2002, Whitney Houston was sued for $100 million by her father John's company, John Houston Entertainment. John Huston filed a lawsuit in Newark Superior Court, New Jersey, alleging that his daughter Whitney's personal financial troubles and drug problems were paid for by his entertainment agency, and that he spent billions of dollars to help her through her predicament. According to the lawsuit, John Houston Entertainment, a company founded by John Houston and his partner Kevin Skinner, secretly helped Whitney Houston get out of a marijuana possession case and hired lawyers to help her secure a $100 million recording contract with Arista Records.

John alleges that Whitney Houston ignored his daughter's payment for services provided by John Houston Entertainment, and he is suing her for breach of contract and seeking $100 million in damages.

Whitney Houston did not see her father for the last time, did not express any feelings, and did not attend her father's funeral.
