Founded in 1982, the Film and Television Festival is a grand event of global sports movies, culture and exchanges, known as the "Oscar" of sports movies. So far, 34 sessions have been successfully held.

In the selection activities of the 17th Beijing International Sports Film Week and the 39th Milan International Sports Film and Television Festival Global Finals Beijing station, a total of 13 films were selected to participate in the Milan International Sports Film and Television Festival Finals. Among them, the Tokyo Olympic Games documentary "Chasing Light: Road to Tokyo" produced by Xinhua News Agency and the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Torch Publicity video produced by the Beijing Organizing Committee of the Winter Olympics were nominated for the main competition unit, the Olympic Spirit unit.

Co-sponsored by IOC and FICTS: The Milan International Sports Film and Television Festival is an authoritative and influential international sports cultural event co-sponsored by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Federation of Sports Film and Television (FICTS) in the professional field of sports film and television.
Milan International Sports Film and Television Festival aims to explore new knowledge of sports film and television, show the style of sports film and television, and contribute to the development of world film and television and the dissemination of culture and art.
The Milan International Film and Television Festival is an annual event that has been successfully held for 32 consecutive sessions since its inception in 1982. Each session attracted the active participation of sports film and television people from all over the world, and was strongly supported by the IOC member states and sports organizations. Sports selected by the 102 member countries and territories of the International Federation of Sports Film and Television are selected in the preliminary round of the five continents of the world. According to the category of works, creators can submit their entries in six categories: Olympic Spiritual Value, documentary, TV program/New technology, Sports and Society, film, and sports advertising. The finalists will be selected and sent to the main competition in Milan, where they will be judged by the Congress jury. The creators of all shortlisted works will be invited to show their works in Milan, Italy, from the end of October to the beginning of November each year, and attend various forms of creative exchanges, seminars and grand awards ceremony.
Due to the growing influence of the event, the range of countries and territories that apply to host the preliminary Zone event is expanding every year. Only after a strict inspection by the Executive Committee of the International Sports Film and Television Federation can its hosting qualifications be established.
In 2009, after strict investigation by the Executive Committee of the International Sports Film and Television Federation, it was determined to set up a sub-division of the film and television festival in Beijing, China, and all the winning works of the Beijing Station will be selected to participate in the finals held in Milan, Italy in October 2009, so that more sports and television works in China and Asia have the opportunity to enter the international stage.

The 2012 Global Finals will be moved to Beijing and included in the 7th China Beijing Cultural and Creative Industries Expo in 2012. During the preparation for the global Finals of the Milan International Sports Film and Television Festival, the Beijing Organizing Committee will start with the new film form of "micro film", launch the "Sports micro film shooting plan", and make every effort to create a display and exchange platform for "micro film", encourage and support young directors and well-known film and television creative teams to engage in the creation of sports "micro film", and cheer for sports athletes. To promote the creation of sports film and television, drive the development of sports industry services.

On the evening of November 7, 2023, the 2023 Milan International Sports Film and Television Festival opened at the Lombardy Building in Milan, and 17 works including "Beijing 2022", "Chinese Ping-Pong Jedi Counterattack" and "Our Winter Olympics" were shortlisted.
The Milan International Sports Film and Television Festival received a total of 972 entries and 133 entries, including 17 films and television works from China. The five-day film and television festival will feature 140 screenings in four cinemas and is open to the public for free.
This year's film and television festival has designated the 9th as "Beijing Day". At that time, the International Sports Film and Television Federation and the Beijing Olympic City Development Promotion Association will jointly hold a symposium on "the charm of Olympic City" and screen the official film "Beijing 2022" for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Five exhibition activities will also be held during the film and TV festival, including themed exhibitions such as "China's sports image - City of Double Olympics" and "Milan-Cortina d 'Ampezzo 2026".
On November 11, 2023, the award ceremony was held to reveal all kinds of winning works.
