Welding rod steel refers to the steel used for welding rods. Welding rod steel The biggest feature is that it must ensure that the chemical composition of the wire rod meets the requirements of various standard components, does not allow chemical composition deviation, the smelting composition control range is narrower than the standard range, and the sulfur and phosphorus content is lower. With the increase of carbon content in the welding wire, the crack tendency of the weld increases, and the impact toughness decreases, but too low carbon content will lead to too soft welding wire, difficult welding flux extrusion, and insufficient strength of the weld metal. For this reason, the H08A carbon content is controlled within the range of 0.06% ~ 0.08%.
silicon Affect the cold drawing processing performance, and reduce the weld plasticity, therefore, the silicon content of H08 steel should not be more than 0.03%. Manganese can not only improve the tensile strength of the weld, but also improve the plasticity and toughness, and also improve the crack resistance of the weld. manganese The content is controlled at 0.4% ~ 0.5%. With the increase of sulfur content, the hot cracking tendency of weld increases, and the possibility of porosity in weld increases. The weld cold crack tendency increases with the increase of phosphorus content, while the low temperature impact value decreases rapidly. H08 is divided into A, E and C3 grades according to the different phosphorus and sulfur content. H08C has the lowest sulfur and phosphorus content in H08 steel, and its rod price is also higher.

Carbon electrode steel has no special requirements for mechanical properties because of its low carbon and silicon content and soft steel. Welding rod steel is divided into:
(1) non-alloy steel;
(3) alloy structural steel;

Smelting requirement

The smelting requirements of carbon electrode steel are as follows:
(1) The carbon electrode steel was originally produced by die casting, and the billet is now cast by continuous casting process.
(2) The end carbon w[C] is controlled at 0.04% ~ 0.06%, the steel outlet is maintained, and the slag is blocked.
(3) If the continuous casting process of molten steel is deoxidized with aluminum, the oxygen content is difficult to control, and improper control will produce subskin bubbles or nozzling at the nozzle, therefore, the use of Fe-Mn-A1 alloy instead of a single aluminum deoxidization.
(4) Strictly control the oxygen content in steel from steelmaking to refining, and at the end of refining, the oxygen activity is controlled at 25 ~ 45ppm(0.0025% ~ 0.0045%).
(5) The continuous casting process adopts full-protection casting billet.
(6) Low carbon and high alkalinity covering agent is used in tundish.
