During the broadcast, the Chinese delegation's entrance was interrupted by a commercial and an "unreserved" apology for misplacing the Chinese flag in the Olympic medal tally.
A spokesman for Channel 7 said in an interview that the network regretted the commercial break when the Chinese delegation entered the Maracana Stadium for the opening ceremony, saying it was always "difficult" to find commercial breaks during the live broadcast.
"It was a mistake," the spokesman said. To those offended by this, we apologise unreservedly... We regret that a commercial was shown during the Chinese delegation's entrance, which we acknowledge was a mistake."
