"To Live" mainly tells the story of the 1940s, Fugui (Ge You is acted the role of) because of gambling addiction to lead to the death of the family, his wife Jiazhen (Gong Li is acted the role of) with the child to leave, Fugui quit gambling after Jiazhen returns, the family in poverty. During the Great Leap Forward period, the son of Fugui has Qing (Dong Fei is acted the role of) by the district commander (that is, Chunsheng) accidentally hit and killed. In the Cultural Revolution, Chunsheng was persecuted, his wife committed suicide, and he tried to commit suicide after giving his savings to Fugui, but was persuaded by Jiazhen. Supporting role
Wang Bin and Shi Runjiu began to look for supporting characters before shooting.
