(Adopted by the Founding Congress of the Social Democratic Party of Poland on January 28, 1990)
Poland
Poland is our highest value and we serve it. We believe that the only source of power is the aspirations of the people expressed in democratic and proportional elections. We associate the smooth development of Poland with progress, openness to the world and participation in the creation of world civilization.
(2) We will make Poland the fatherland of free, equal and united people, a country of social justice. We see its future with Democratic socialism Be linked together.
We advocate the building of civil society. We believe that human rights and civil liberties are inviolable. For us, the fundamental values are human dignity and free development. Respect for labor, sensitivity to exploitation, insult, and suffering. We respect truth, humility and honesty.
3. We advocate for Poland to become a strong state governed by the rule of law and for parliamentary democracy and a multi-party system. We support local self-government and workers' self-government, and support the freedom of society to organize itself.
4. We want to build a Poland that uses the fruits of science and participates in a rich cultural life. We oppose inequality in access to education and advocate the universal right to education at all levels and at all levels: schools.
We respect the full freedom of scientific and artistic creation. It is the duty of the State to enable its citizens to enjoy the fruits of the various strains of world culture and to create conditions for the cultivation and development of national cultures.
5. We believe that tolerance is an inalienable value of social life. Freedom of speech, Freedom of religious belief Do not destroy. We insist on the separation of church and state and maintain a neutral attitude towards citizens' religious beliefs. We believe that the political, cultural, religious and ethnic rights of minorities should be guaranteed.
6. We associate our ideals with the Polish socialist tradition, with the Polish left's exploration of contemporary realities and with the achievements of the socialist groups.
Economic and social justice
7. Freedom is impossible without social justice, and it cannot be achieved without an honest distribution of the fruits of rational and efficient production.
8. We advocate the application of business principles that have been tested in the world under Polish conditions. We advocate that the market economy should be combined with the intervention factor of the state and the state's responsibility for social welfare. We stand for a multi-component economy and for the replacement to a certain extent of state ownership by all forms of social property which make the most rational use of the means of production, limited to what is reasonable and economically necessary.
We see the need to develop elements of private ownership while rejecting the dogma that only private ownership is compatible with the logic of a market economy; Only private ownership can guarantee the highest economic results.
To jointly decide on the transformation of the ownership of the enterprise and to jointly participate in the management of the enterprise, they must become employees; A right that can be denied.
Changes in state ownership cannot be transformed into speculative sales of state property. Natural resources and the natural environment shall be protected by the Constitution,
9. People must be evaluated and paid according to the results of labor. We advocate the establishment of a management system conducive to improving labor efficiency and giving play to the enterprising spirit of individuals and collectives. We do not agree that unemployment is an inherent factor in the economic mechanism. We believe that the right to work is an inalienable right of man.
10. We call for a fair sharing of the costs of social and economic change among various social groups and ownership components.
11. We are opposed to depriving people of the right to social welfare and the guarantee of a stable life. We shall carry out our activities within the limits prescribed by law, and shall use all possible means to enable the State, self-government and public bodies entrusted with this task to create the conditions for subsistence of self-supporting workers. They must be guaranteed the benefits of all the fruits of civilization, especially well-organized education, health care, culture and rest.
We advocate de facto, not formal, equality for women. The social policy of the State must protect social security undertakings. Nor can it be replaced by admirable philanthropy.
We support scientific and technological progress and advocate the most profound revolution in the contemporary world economy. There is no other way for the country to develop.
12. Market mechanisms cannot replace the state in carrying out economic policies. We believe that this policy should serve to improve the efficiency of management and modernize the economy, expand the competitiveness of the economy and meet the social basis. Bar needs, that is, the need for food and housing services.
13, Economic development should not be at the expense of the natural environment, the deterioration of the natural environment poses a threat to the survival of our people.
14. We support the development of the countryside. We support the narrowing of the differences in working and living conditions between urban and rural areas. We want to treat all economic components of agriculture equally. Together with farmers, we will solve the social problems caused by the crowding out of smallholder production by market mechanisms. We are against the sale of Polish land to foreigners.
Its place in Europe and the world
15. The independence and sovereignty of States and their defence are for us inalienable possessions. The problem must be solved by ourselves and we are opposed to any outside interference. We stand for the abandonment of control and force in state-to-state relations and for disarmament and the expansion of trust.
Our aim is the solidarity and friendship of peoples with equal rights to confront together the global challenges of our time. We support the idea of building the European edifice through good-neighbourly relations.
We defend Poland's national interests, based on the right to live within hitherto secure borders.
We consider it particularly important to develop friendly and good-neighbourly relations with our Allies.
We recognize the right of all peoples to self-determination, provided that the rights and interests of their partners are not violated.
16. We are an integral part of the Left in Europe and the world. We advocate the development of cooperation with all leftist groups committed to democratic and just solutions to global, national and social problems. We particularly value our links with the Socialist International.
The party
(17) The Party respects the wishes and demands of those who live by their hands and intellectual labor. The Party will unite those who strongly agree with its program, regardless of their worldview.
18. We support freedom of intellectual and political inquiry, and the spirit of innovation from the bottom up. Within our ranks, differences in views and demands can take the form of organizing different forums or programmatic factions.
19. We want solidarity and cooperation with all leftists. We are ready to establish cooperative relations with the Polish National Council of Trade Unions, Solidarity and other trade union organizations, associations, autonomous movements and cooperative movements. We are ready to cooperate candidly with the peasant movement. We feel close to the youth movement, the ecological protection movement and the peace movement.
20. While committed to the promotion of national consultation, we hope to work together with other political parties, not only the Left Party, to create a modern political civilization, the basis of which is to maintain their own identity. Respect their different interests and be good at seeking compromise on the fundamental issues of the people.
