Most of the Zhangcheng Expressway is located in the transition zone of Bashang Plateau, with serious desertification and very dry surface covered with a layer of floating soil. Due to the scarcity of land resources, builders occupy as little farmland as possible when designing routes, and most of them walk on barren hills and slopes. The pressure of the fish pond is bound to pollute drinking water sources, and even block the spring channel, resulting in water cut off in 6 villages. After the management office understood, through field investigation and joint design, the original design was adjusted, and the structure was set up according to the layout of the spring to protect the water source.
The construction environment is harsh, the climate is cold and dry, and the terrain drop is as high as 600 meters; The effective construction period is short and the construction period is tight...... The difficulties of Zhangcheng second phase construction are numerous. Overtime is a common occurrence for builders, most of whom return home only once a week. Because the project has just started, there are too many things to learn and master, and the management department requires overtime work from 7:30 to 9 p.m. every night, and also sends a special person to check the guard, which is nicknamed "evening self-study".

On March 25, 2013, the construction of the Chengde section of the Zhangcheng Expressway was fully started, and it is expected that the whole line will be opened to traffic in 2016.
It is understood that the starting point of Zhangjiakou section of Zhangcheng Expressway is connected with the Beijing-Tibet Expressway, and the 62 kilometers to Chongli has been completed and opened to traffic in September 2010, and the remaining Chongli to Zhangchengjie section of more than 100 kilometers is carrying out land acquisition and relocation work, which will be built in 2014. The project of Chengde Section of Zhangcheng Expressway is an important part of Chengde's "One ring and eight bullet" expressway network. After completion, it will become a major transportation channel for Chengde to Tangshan and Qinhuangdao ports in the east and Shanxi and Inner Mongolia energy bases in the west, which is of great significance for strengthening the exchange and cooperation between the city and Shanxi and Inner Mongolia and promoting regional economic development.

Recently, Grassland Tianlu and Zhangcheng (Zhangjiakou to Chengde) expressway connection line project (also known as Grassland Tianlu, Olympic Yingbin Avenue) in Zhangbei County Zhanhai Township started construction. Zhangjiakou section of Zhangcheng Expressway (Chongli to Zhangchengjie) has a total length of 101.807 kilometers, passing through Chongli, Zhangbei, Guyuan three counties, and Chengde section of Zhangcheng Expressway. Construction began in April 2013 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.
Zhangcheng Expressway is an important east-west trunk line in the northernmost part of Hebei Province, connecting Dadao Expressway, Beijing-Tibet Expressway and Erqin Expressway. It is an important channel connecting Jiangda Sea and East West Union in northeast and northwest regions, and is included in the national expressway network as the big outer ring road of Beijing. It is of great significance for promoting Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integration, promoting poverty alleviation and development in Zhangcheng area, and diverting the transit traffic pressure of Beijing.
The roadbed width of Zhangcheng Expressway is 24.5 meters, and there are 1 large bridge, 14 Bridges, 27 middle Bridges, 16 small Bridges, 152 culverts, 2 long tunnels and 1 middle tunnel. The whole line has 2 service areas and 4 interchange seats. At the same time, four connecting lines are set up at Nanshan Kiln, Zhanhai, Xixinying and Guyuan, connecting Chongli County's major ski resorts, Wuhua Meadow Wetland Park, Grassland Heaven Road and Huapili Mountain Scenic spot.
At present, the whole Zhangcheng high-speed line is under intense construction, and all the projects are in order. Upper slope protection and drainage works, bridge works, tunnel lining, road base plan to be completed by the end of July; The protection of the lower slope, the concrete pavement of the tunnel and all the asphalt surface are scheduled to be completed by the end of September; The construction, transportation and afforestation projects will be completed before the end of October; By the end of November, the mechanical and electrical engineering was completed, and the whole line was ready for traffic; It opened to traffic at the end of December.
The Huapiling Tunnel is a two-track tunnel with a left line length of 2994 m and a right line length of 2944 m. It is a key control project for the whole line. It is built by China Railway 11th First Division, Cheung Chengc. On 28 May, the left line of the Huapiling Tunnel was successfully completed, which was another major breakthrough after the right line was successfully completed on 20 May. Subsequent secondary lining, road and other projects are scheduled to be completed by the end of July.
After the completion and opening to traffic of the connection line between Grassland Tianlu and Zhangcheng Expressway, it will give full play to the radiation and pulling power of the expressway for local economic and social development, further improve the Olympic road network structure, promote the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, and promote the construction and development of Grassland Tianlu tourism and Zhangbei County eco-tourism. Since September 22, 2022, Chengde Branch of Hebei High-speed Group has carried out road surface, bridge deck and tunnel restoration construction on the Chengde section of Zhangcheng High-speed of G95 Capital Ring Line.
