Most of the singers back then were folk musicians, and they just Li Guyi or Jiang Dawei But Cui Jian is different, he can very accurately imitate those English singers or Liu Wenzheng Something like that, which was rare at the time. Unlike rock musicians of his time, Cui Jian's obsession was not Heavy metal But in the Beijing Song and Dance Troupe period came into contact with Jazz music Its freedom and improvisation make Cui Jian believe that the playing method should not become the pressure of the artist [27] . Cui Jian heard tapes brought into China by foreign tourists and students, and he began learning to play the guitar and was soon singing in public [9] .

Character evaluation

EDITOR
Cui Jian is the mainland's most rock-conscious man, and his artistic intuition has led to the advance of pop music, something that was only possible in the 1990s ( Hou Dejian ) [269] .
Cui Jian's first and second albums, among all the rock albums in the world, are also absolutely first-class, both in terms of lyrics and production, especially production (Wang Feng) [270] .
Cui Jian's music creation is bold and creative. Ethnic instruments such as suona, guzheng, flute and xiao are integrated with guitar, saxophone, electronic organ and western percussion instruments. The music is extremely flexible, and the characteristics and rhythms of punk, jazz, African pop music, rap and rock music integrated into it make his singing very appealing and provocative ( Jiang Tonglin ) [271] .
Cui Jian and Luo Dayou are great Chinese musical poets ( Yu Guangzhong ) [272] .
Cui Jian's works are very deep, very philosophical, is the product of a deep reflection. His exploration will leave a deep footprint in the history of Chinese music ( 毛阿敏 ) .
Dare to stand up for yourself. His feelings are based entirely on his own life experience, reaching a very high level and convincing. Many of his songs are very good, which is difficult for professional composers to achieve ( Liu Huan ) [269] .
Cui Jian sings like a roar. He revealed some truths, but most importantly, he made a man's heart heard ( Wang Shuo ) [272-273] .
Cui Jian is directly based on the state of existence, there is no barrier, and there is no need for transition, and the power of his music and ideas lies in this ( Zhou Guoping ) [38] .
In a way, his thinking goes to the heart of our meager age ( Xie Youshun ) [274] .
Cui Jian created the Chinese rock music inspired the awakening of musicians' collective consciousness, Cui Jian's contribution is equal to the creation of rock music in China, and this "creation" is indisputable. His starting point in music is very high, many people began to play rock music, they feel that there is too much difference with his level, because everyone can learn is his rebellion, determination and uncompromising, but the core thing can not learn, basically can not learn is his music. His inspiration that "everyone can play rock and roll" is the most important (Wang Feng) [270] .
Many underground bands started practicing and singing rock and roll under his influence ( Cheng Fangyuan ) [275] .
Cui Jian's music is rooted, has a soul, is very cool, is very empowering. He really pioneered a kind of "Chinese rock" at that time. Any innovation must be built on the foundation of their own culture, and Cui Jian's rock music has really dug the roots of Chinese culture, I think this is the unique place of Cui Jian ( Gong Linna ) [276] .
Cui Jian is a banner in the history of music ( Cheng Lin ) [276] .
The talented musicians represented by Cui Jian shouted out the first voice of personality liberation, issued their own voice, and pursued individual values ( Liang Hongda ) [277] .
It is clear that Cui Jian's songs deal with many social and emotional issues, with a very political agenda, at least on the surface, and that this politics is not in tune with the conventional theme. It is impossible to know whether Cui Jian's semi-underground state is a subjective choice or a forced hibernation. In short, he has always been a public figure that the public cannot see (Kang Tonglin) [271] .
Cui Jian is the first person in Chinese rock music, and there is no one in sight to catch up (Hou Dejian) [276] .
Cui Jian's music represents the level of Chinese rock music and even Oriental rock music ( Udo Lindenberg ) [278] .
In China, Cui Jian was associated with Elvis Presley , Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen Compare. Known as the "Father of Chinese rock" (PBS) [279] .
Cui's music has influenced many pop and rock musicians, including Wang Feng, Leehom Wang [280] , David Tao [281] , Zhang Zhenyue [282] , Fang Datong [283] , Li Ronghao [284] , Second-hand rose [285] , extend [286] Let's wait. Wang Leehom considers Cui Jian's "A Red Cloth" one of the ten most iconic songs in the history of Chinese music [287] , lead singer of Second-hand Rose diplodocus Cui Jian is regarded as the only leader of Chinese rock [288] .

Disputed matter

Banned event
Cui Jian became a troublemaker after he sang a cover of Nanniwan in 1987. After the aborted Asian Games tour. The Beijing show is unlikely to be approved, and producers everywhere are waiting to see. One theory is that Cui Jian likes to make incendiary remarks between songs, which annoys the authorities [6] .
In the decade since he was unable to hold a major performance in Beijing, Cui Jian has never publicly commented or protested. "I didn't feel like I was blocked... We've been playing small, out-of-town shows [6] "
Although he is open to interviews, he has always offered opinions and rarely mentioned concrete reality, let alone mental movements. "Let's see who can stick it out until the end", "The red flag is still flying, there is no fixed direction", "I want to end this last complaint, then I can only face the wind forward" [6] .
Kenny Bloom, a Jewish American and the father of Cui Jian's daughter, told Southern Weekly that Cui Jian was extremely uncomfortable at that time. "He said that if it was performed in Chengdu, 30,000 people would go to hear it. But Beijing is his hometown, but he can't sing here." "One might think Cui Jian is a Trouble Maker, but he's not. He's a communicator." Bloom recalled to a Southern Weekly reporter [6] .
Many have pondered the history of this "ban," trying to understand its relationship to Cui Jian. Main writer of Sanlian Life Weekly Wang Xiaofeng Interview him: Did your success come from restrictions and pressures placed on you? Cui Jian said: You are insulting me by asking. Wang Xiaofeng wrote in his blog: "I did not underestimate Cui Jian, nor did I insult him, it is a fact... A big part of Cui Jian's charm comes from his rebelliousness, and the counterforce of that rebelliousness really comes from repressing him, both in life and officially." Cao Ping, who was called by Cui Jian as "the earliest person to study rock music in China", has a unique opinion: if it is not "blocked", Cui Jian's status may decline, "he will gain more benefits commercially if he opens up the performance, but the audience may also be tired of watching." [6] "
Since 2000, Cui Jian has been allowed to perform without restrictions. Instead, he began to actively resist. When the network refused to let him appear on the show, now he refuses TV because the live performance is difficult to meet his requirements. The agent Yu Yu persuaded him: "It's not that the audience doesn't choose you, you don't give them a chance to choose you." He only attended a limited number of times [6] .
Biographical tort
On November 25, 1992, Cui Jian Shouted in the Middle of Nothing: Chinese Rock Memo Zhao Jianwei He was sued by Cui Jian and eventually lost. The court found that the book violated Cui's portrait rights by using a large number of his photos without permission. "I saw the hypocrisy in the book... I don't care how much he says I have." In early 1993, Mr. Cui said in an interview that he would try to win the case. "If I end up losing, people will know it's not my book, it's not what I want to say... You have no right to make me a shadow of Western rock music in China." Another reason is: "If you were my friend, why didn't you tell me when you finished writing?" Cui Jian did say hello to Zhao Jianwei, to look at the manuscript first. But Mr. Zhao did not. The reason: He didn't want Cui Jian's opinion to affect what he wanted to write. "If Cui Jian says: Don't do it, or how do you want to change it, then I will be passive." Zhao Jianwei believes that the real motive for Cui Jian's anger and prosecution is that he mentioned in the book that Cui Jian and various people have conflicts. Among them, the biggest conflict is his conflict with the musicians [289] .
Na Ying lip-synch
Cui Jian at the bar of the China World Hotel in Beijing, July 31, 2002 Na Ying "Lip-synching all the time" [290] Then the domestic media reported one after another. Cui later publicly explained that it was a slip of the tongue [291] .
On December 15, 2002, in" Show business At the 9th anniversary of the founding of the magazine held by the workers, Cui Jian publicly apologized to Na Ying. He said that the words in the real singing movement were irresponsibly hyped by some media, which inadvertently hurt his old friend Na Ying for more than ten years [292] .
On May 25, 2003, Na Ying Zai Xu Gehui In the interview program hosted by Cui Jian, he expressed his disapproval of Cui Jian's anti-lip-synching campaign, saying that "doing so is harmful to the entire pop music, is demeaning and disrespecting the pop music world, and he has never respected pop music." If he had really won me over, I would have been perfectly comfortable wearing his so-called anti-lip-synching T-shirt. But now I disagree with him and will definitely not support his movement [291] "
Words and deeds in "China Star"
At the end of 2015, Cui Jian served as a star recommender on China Star [293-294] . In the program, he attacked Xiao Fresh meat, refused to talk about Wang Feng, said dirty words, and another recommender Liu Huan Choking on each other on stage [294] There were also arguments and even conflicts with some players [295-297] .
December 1, 2015, Hong Kong columnist Tao Jie Published an article entitled "Blindfolded Cui Jian", describing Cui Jian's comments on Hong Kong music in the second issue of "China Star" (aired on November 28), even criticizing Cui Jian for criticizing Hong Kong. On December 4, the program team of "China Star" issued a statement regarding the article, saying that Tao Jie is completely distorting the facts and creating nothing, and that Cui Jian is the hope Xu Zhian Sing works representing the new era of Hong Kong. And demanded an apology from Tao Jie [298] . Cui Jian later said in the recording of the program that "did not invite the editor to dinner, the program I saw, I feel I hate", he clarified that he did not criticize Xu Zhian and Cantonese songs, and said that he is very tolerant of all types of music [299] . Xu Zhian himself also thought Cui Jian's words helped him [300] .
On January 11, 2016, a video recording of "China Star" was exposed on the Internet, in which Cui Jian and Without mishap There was a heated debate about whether the singing was respectful enough to the audience. Cui Jian means that this soothing singing style of Ping An is not appealing enough, and Ping An says that what he wants to express Cui Jian did not receive, does not mean that the audience did not receive it. Finally, under the mediation of the host, the two people stopped the war of words [301] . For this dispute, the two sides did not continue to communicate privately, Ping An said that the matter is not the person, Cui Jian is a milestone in his mind [302] .
