In 1913, the founder of the modern Olympic Games, Pierre de Coubertin, who always believed that the Olympic movement should have its own logo, conceived the design of the five rings [3] , draw it on top of a letter and color it yourself [4] .
Pierre de Coubertin's design manuscript for the Olympic symbol
From June 15 to 23, 1914, the International Olympic Committee was in Paris, France Sorbonne Hold the Congress and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the International Olympic Committee. At the memorial Congress, Coubertin took out his own design of the five-ring logo to display, and suggested that it be used as a symbol of the Olympic movement. After listening to Coubertin's explanation of the five rings symbol, the conference determined that the five rings pattern would be used as an Olympic symbol. [3]
On August 14, 1920, at the opening ceremony of the 7th Summer Olympic Games in Antwerp, the Olympic symbol was officially displayed for the first time at the Olympic Games. [5]
In 1957, the International Olympic Committee approved a specific version of the Olympic logo in which the rings crossed each other in a slightly different way than Coubertin's original design. [1]
In 1986, the International Olympic Committee specified the official version of the Olympic logo with white slits in the graphic code, so that the printing technology of the time could reproduce the Olympic logo as accurately as possible. [6]
In 2010, the International Olympic Committee approved a revision of the Olympic logo, eliminating the version with spacing and returning to Coubertin's original seamless design. [1]

Symbolic meaning

broadcast
EDITOR
The original design intention of the Olympic logo is to use the five rings to symbolize the five continents in the world that recognize the Olympic movement and prepare to participate in the Olympic competition, and the sixth color, white, the base color of the flag, and the combination of the five colors of the five rings can represent the flag colors of all countries in the world at that time, meaning that all countries can participate in the competition under their own flags without exception. This contains Coubertin's idea of absorbing colonial nations to participate in the Olympic Games and serving the cause of peace among nations. (Note: There is no clear correspondence between the colors of the five rings and the continents) [2] [7]
With the passage of time and the development and change of the Olympic movement, the interpretation of the Olympic symbol has also changed. The Olympic Charter states that the Olympic symbol symbolizes the activities of the Olympic Movement, represents the unity of the five continents, and the meeting of athletes from all over the world at the Olympic Games in a spirit of justice, frank competition and friendship, fully reflecting the content of Olympism and "all nations, all peoples". Olympic family "The theme. [3] [8]
