In October 2021, commissioned by the Winter Sports Management Center of the State General Administration of Sport, the Social Situation Opinion Survey Center of the National Bureau of Statistics conducted a statistical survey of "driving 300 million people to participate in ice and snow sports". According to the survey data, since Beijing successfully bid for the Winter Olympics in 2015, the number of people participating in ice and snow sports nationwide has reached 346 million by October 2021. In terms of regions, the participating population in the eastern region was 143 million, the central region was 68 million, the western region was 84 million, and the Northeast region was 51 million. Due to climate reasons, the participation rate of residents in the northeast region is the highest, and the participation rate in the eastern, western and central regions is not significantly different.

According to the data, among the interviewees who have participated in ice and snow sports since 2015, the proportion of "personal spontaneous participation" of the interviewees is the highest, which is 92.64%. From the perspective of the purpose of participating in ice and snow sports, the proportion of choosing "entertainment and leisure" is the highest, which is 70.35%, followed by "physical fitness" accounting for 15.78%, and "hobbies" accounting for 11.49%. Nearly two-thirds of the respondents expressed their willingness to participate in ice and snow sports, and nearly 60% of the respondents believed that the current atmosphere for participating in ice and snow sports was better.
