Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition will go on sale in Europe tomorrow (with hands-on experience)
Ubuntu has been available on PCS and tablets for quite some time, but progress on mobile has not been smooth. The good news is that the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition is available in Europe on June 25. TNW editors have been in possession of the €299 device for 24 hours, during which time Ben Woods is most concerned about whether it offers an alternative to iOS and Android.
The MX4 Ubuntu Edition features a 5.36-inch @1920x1152 resolution screen (covered in third-generation Gorilla glass) with a black screen and white design somewhat reminiscent of the previous generation iPhone (small circle Home button).
The machine is both thin and one-handed use, the rear shell can be removed, but the battery cannot be replaced. You can only replace the SIM card after opening the cover, and there is no microSD expansion slot (only 16GB of internal storage).
The rear camera is 20.7 megapixels, but the white plastic back cover has some sticky fingerprints. Although not perfect, the actual results are quite encouraging.
It offers a 2-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and selfies. Of course, for the selfie party, it would be nice to have more pixels.
