Apple applied for fingerprint sensor patent Linyi Addy business patent application

The US Patent Office on Thursday published a patent application from Apple, which it describes as a "sensor packaging technology." The technology could encapsulate sensors and conductive bezels in a smaller, more protective way, making fingerprint sensing components more suitable for mobile devices.

The patent describes a single package structure that protects the fragile biometric array while allowing a portion of the sensor and conducting bezel to be exposed.

If Apple wants to add fingerprint recognition to mobile devices in the future, this patent will be of great value. It makes fingerprint-sensing components much smaller. Apple's previous acquisition of fingerprint sensor manufacturer Authentec is evidence of Apple's trend
