UNESCO pays tribute to Amadou Mahtar M'Bow
The Director-General of UNESCO, Audrey Azoulay, expressed her deep sadness at the news of the death of Amadou Mahtar M'Bow, former Director-General of UNESCO (1974-1987) and the first African to head an international organization. We owe to him the monumental scientific work that is the General History of Africa, which gave the world, and more particularly Africans, a means of appropriating their history and projecting themselves into the future.
UNESCO extends its sincere condolences to his family, friends and the many others who saw in him a model of thought and action.
