The third medical team from our province to Samoa has returned

Jilin Daily, September 2 (reporter Bi Xue) Today, the third batch of medical teams in our province to support Samoa successfully completed the foreign medical aid mission and arrived safely in Changchun.

The medical assistance mission from China (Jilin) to Samoa lasts for two years, and is shared by four medical institutions: the First Hospital of Kedah, the Second Hospital of Kedah, the China-Japan Friendship Hospital of Kedah, and the People's Hospital of Jilin Province. The medical teams rotate every six months. Due to the impact of the epidemic, the Samoa border blockade, the next batch of medical teams can not arrive in Samoa for rotation and handover, captain Wang Yonggang decided to continue to stick to the rest of the team to return home to rest.

The third batch of medical teams from China (Jilin) to Samoa consists of six doctors from the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Kedah. They arrived in Samoa on August 9, 2019, and began medical assistance work. They were scheduled to return in early February this year, but due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the medical team postponed their return plan and participated in the local action against the epidemic. During the period of assistance, they completed more than 6,000 outpatient visits, more than 1,800 consultations, more than 450 surgeries, more than 2,000 pathology reports, more than 20 overseas referral meetings and multidisciplinary comprehensive consultations, and 4 free consultations. In addition, they also imparted medical skills to local medical personnel through clinical teaching, joint operations, special lectures and training courses, leaving a "medical team that does not leave".

The medical team has done a lot of work for Samoa and left a good memory. During the measles outbreak in Samoa from October to December 2019, the medical team, while insisting on clinical work, also publicized measles prevention knowledge to the public through the relevant media in Samoa, conducted free medical consultations, produced an English version of the measles prevention and control manual, and distributed essential protective items. During the COVID-19 prevention and control period this year, the medical team participated in the entire process of local epidemic prevention and control, sharing protective measures and precautions through videos on many occasions. They were not only praised by the National Health and Health Commission, but also commended by the local embassy for their outstanding completion of the foreign medical aid mission.
