  • In 1994, China FAW Group entered the market of South Africa, which made FAW the first ever and the only Chinese auto brand in South Africa at the time. The construction of FAW Coega plant was finished in 2014. Following that, the factory began operating, signaling a new chapter for FAW in expanding localized operations in South Africa.

    FAW has generated a significant number of jobs over the last three decades and is dedicated to accelerating the development of local employees' skills and professional expertise. Furthermore, FAW South Africa consistently offers professional and skills training, resulting in the cultivation of numerous high-quality local talents proficient in automotive production techniques, marketing, and management.

    Charlton Ngwenya joined FAW South Africa in 2007, started as a quality inspector, in 2012 was transferred to the assembly line, to become a station leader. After the kickoff of FAW Coega Assembly Plant, he was transferred to the plant and become a section leader, managing three sections. He is very cooperative, high skilled, and totally devoted to the work. The plant takes him as a key employee, sends him to take part in technique and management training. In 2024, he becomes the rework supervisor. His colleagues respect him on his commitment and hard work. He attributes all his achievements to China. “Chinese colleagues are hardworking, generous and intelligent. I motivated myself to strive like them. ”He said, “my life is getting better and better, for FAW gives me the double guarantee in life and career, I’m thankful to FAW!”

    Patrick Malumba became a part of the FAW South Africa team in 2010. Starting as an assembly operator, he quickly gained expertise through technical training provided by the company. In 2014, he was chosen to work at the FAW Coega plant within the adjustment section. In this new role, he participated in various training programs and obtained certification of diesel mechanics. By 2019, he had become the head of the group, and by 2024, he was promoted to supervisor of adjustment team. Patrick has expressed his satisfaction with working at FAW, emphasizing the comfort and respect he feels.

    Jean-Jacques Mwanza originates from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Upon his arrival in South Africa, he actively sought job opportunities. In 2009, he received an offer from FAW South Africa and subsequently assumed a position at FAW Coega plant. His competence and skills grew in tandem with the factory's development. Jean-Jacques progressed from being a technician to a station leader, section leader, supervisor of online/offline, and eventually, the senior supervisor responsible for managing the entire workshop. "I have collaborated with numerous Chinese enterprise management personnel and gained valuable knowledge from them. I arrived here with nothing, but now I have a family, a lovely wife, and beautiful children. I am truly grateful for FAW's efforts to enhance my life. I am extremely happy."

    At the 30th anniversary ceremony of FAW entering South Africa held in 2024, Harris Moodley was honored for his great contributions.

    At FAW South Africa, Harris Moodley, the first employee of the plant, started off as a technician and then progressed through the ranks to become the foreman, workshop manager, technical manager, and is now the homologation manager in charge of vehicle testing based at FAW South Africa Head Office. During the 30th anniversary celebration of FAW entering South Africa in 2024, Harris Moodley was recognized for his significant contributions. Despite receiving lucrative job offers from competitors in recent years, Harris Moodley turned them down, stating, "FAW's products keep improving each year. I can gain advanced knowledge and techniques from these improvements, which enable me to conduct testing for SABS. Working at FAW helps me realize my personal value and gives me a strong sense of achievement. I plan to continue working at FAW until retirement."

    FAW as a brand has not only focused on development within South Africa but has also ensured that along the line of plant and product development, was invest into the growth of employees across all business functions and operations.

    In August 2024, 165 Hongqi vehicles were exported to Europe by the China-Europe freight train.

    Currently, FAW Hongqi's overseas business covers 28 countries and regions, including Europe, the Middle East and Southeast Asia, and operates 128 stores around the world.

    This year, FAW Hongqi officially announced its foray into Germany and France markets, and achieved important milestone results in introducing core products and shaping the brand image in the high-end markets.

    In February, FAW forged partnership with VOGUE and became the official partner of the renowned fashion magazine after Rolls-Royce and Audi.

    In June, Hongqi delivered full-sized electric SUV E-HS9 to Frankfurt Airport as VIP transportation vehicles.

    In July, Hongqi showcased EH7, EHS7, E-HS9 models at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which attracting crowds of local visitors and receiving positive responses.

    Hongqi brand has also actively participated in the international events to provide transportation services.

    During the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games period, Hongqi continued to promote strategic cooperation with the State General Administration of Sport, providing efficient mobility services with its E-HS9 models for the Chinese Olympic Delegation in Paris.

    Moreover, as official vehicles for large-scale international events, Hongqi brand is offering mobility services for the ongoing Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit. 620 Hongqi vehicles, including the C+ class luxury flagship sedan H9, the all-new luxury MPV HQ9, and the luxury bus GUOYUE, will serve the diplomatic event with its outstanding performance.

    In March 2024, Bestune brand, the wholly-owned passenger car brand of FAW Group, held a grand launch ceremony in Mexico City, officially entering the Mexican market.

    This year, FAW Bestune has established 9 overseas agencies and 13 franchised stores, and upgraded its 28 stores. Thanks to these efforts, Bestune has made breakthroughs in the NEV sales in Middle East, Latin America and Eastern Europe, and other overseas markets. 

    FAW Bestune has also realized scale export of the Bestune NAT and the Bestune Xiaoma for the first time this year.

    21 Jiefang JH6 tractors were exported to Zambia

    FAW Jiefang, the commercial vehicle segment of FAW Group, has exported its commercial vehicles to more than 80 countries and regions, including Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, and Eastern Europe. It now has 100 plus key dealers and over 200 service providers in more than 40 countries and regions.

    Since the two parties teamed up in 2022, FAW Jiefang has actively responded to the demands of the client and provided tailored and high-quality services in terms of product development, financing and credit support and after-sales.     Moreover, FAW Jiefang has established a wholly owned subsidiary to operate international businesses of commercial vehicles, with an aim to integrate overseas business and enhance its profitability.

    Guided by the Belt and Road Initiative, with the goal of building itself into a world-class enterprise, FAW has worked actively to expand its overseas presence of its three major homegrown brands – Hongqi, Bestune and Jiefang. To date, FAW’s overseas business has covered 87 countries and regions, including Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, with over 160 first-level dealers around the world. A total of 21 CKD production bases were established in South Africa, Tanzania, Mexico and other countries and regions.

  • On Aug 21, 165 Hongqi complete vehicles transported by the China-Europe Railway Express (Shenyang) Hub were exported to Europe through Suifenhe Port. Since then, the corporation between FAW and Sinotrans Limited (Sinotrans) Shenyang train platform officially commenced.

    To implement the Belt and Road Initiative, FAW Import & Export Corporation signed a strategic cooperative agreement with logistics company Sinotrans in 2023. Under the deal, the two parties would give full play to their scale advantages, leverage their strengths to carry out a series of cooperations in international bill delivery, comprehensive supply chain guarantee, smart construction, etc. FAW had signed contracts with 5 China-Europe Railway Express platforms, which under the jurisdiction of Shenyang Railway Bureau. The cooperation would ensure Chinese auto brand's global expansion.

    FAW will deepen the cooperation with Sinotrans, firmly implement the Belt and Road Initiative, support the revitalization for Northeast China, leverage the advantages of Railway Express in northeast area and accelerate the pace of going global.
