Police in Nantong, Jiangsu province, released the cause of an accident between a bus carrying students and a dump truck that resulted in 1 fatality, 1 serious injury, and 6 minor injuries.
The accident on Friday, occurred at an intersection of two roads. Before the collision, both vehicles were in their respective lanes. The bus, traveling from north to south, encountered a malfunctioning straight traffic signal while the bus driver failed to carefully observe the intersection due to the signal issue and proceeded through at a speed of over 30 km per hour.
At that moment, the dump truck, traveling from west to east at a speed of over 50 km per hour, collided with the front right side of the bus, local police said.
The dump truck involved is suspected of illegally driving within restricted areas and its driver has been apprehended, according to local police.
The bus involved in the accident was carrying 45 individuals, including 39 students, 3 teachers, 2 parents, and 1 driver. One student passed away at a local hospital after the incident.
