The Jagiello Dynasty
The Polish-Lithuanian Kingdom was a Polish state created by Grand Duke Wladyslaw II Jagaiwo of Lithuania after he seized the Polish throne in 1386. In 1569, the parliaments of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania passed a resolution in Lublin establishing the united First Polish Republic (Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth), and the capital was moved from Krakow to Warsaw.

The Piast Dynasty
Grand Duke Mieszko I (circa 960-992) of Piastow established the early feudal state. In 996, Poland accepted Christianity.
In the middle of the 12th century, after the death of Boleslaus III (1102 ~ 1138), due to the development of feudal land ownership by princes, nobles and churches and the rise of cities, the country was divided into several duchies, and Poland entered the feudal period of separation for 200 years. Ladislaus I (reigned 1314-1333) unified Greater Poland, Lesser Poland, and Kujawi, and was crowned King of Poland in Krakow in 1320. Kazimierz III Wielki (reigned 1333-70) reunified Mazovshe. However, West Pommery and East Pommery were also occupied by Brandenburg and Teutonic Knights respectively. Silesia was occupied by the Bohemian crown. In response to the invasion of the Teutonic Knights, the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania formed a dynastic union (1385), with Jagiellon, Grand Duke of Lithuania, as King of Poland. In 1410, the Polish-Lithuanian army dealt a devastating blow to the Teutonic Knights at the Battle of Grunwald. In 1466, East Pommery was recaptured.

The recovery of East Pommery, centered on Gdansk, stimulated the export of Polish grain, and the aristocratic estates established servitude estates for the production of commercial grain. Artisanal workshops sprang up in towns. In 1505, Parliament adopted a constitution that gave the king no power to enact laws without Parliament's consent.
