Member, founded in 1392, among the best in Germany. The old University of Erfurt was second only to the universities of Heidelberg and Cologne. Closed in 1816 and rebuilt in 1994, it is the oldest and youngest university in Germany. The Reformation, humanism and Enlightenment all had an important influence on his academic course. The school consists of four schools: the School of Humanities, the School of Education, the School of Theology, the School of Law, Economics and Social Sciences, offering a wide range of professional courses, known for excellent teaching quality. Academic resources
The University of Erfurt has excellent teaching facilities. With a collection of nearly 700,000 volumes, the university library is the most modern and innovative university library in Germany. The Computer Center has 360 computer slots and is open to students free of charge from 8 a.m. to 22 p.m. Students can freely use Internet resources and send and receive personal E-mail. Goethe City, 25 km from Erfurt, is the original home of the University of Erfurt and its research library, which now houses nearly 560,000 books, 6,500 European collections and 3,500 Asian manuscripts.

There are four general departments, respectively: Department 1, the National Department of Scientific Research Engineering, mainly including economic science, social science and legal science and other majors; Department 2, Department of Philosophical Sciences, mainly including history, philosophy, regional science and language science; Department 3, Department of Educational Science, mainly including art, culture, music, psychology, sports and social education and other majors; Department 4, Theology and Catholic Doctrine
Erfurt, with a population of about 200,000, is the capital of Thuringia and has a history of 1,250 years. As early as the Middle Ages, Erfurt was the political, economic and cultural center of the region. Erfurt has been recorded in the autobiographies of many famous people such as Martin Luther, Schiller and Goethe, and the hometown of famous composers such as Liszt is also in Erfurt. The centre of the ancient city is the best preserved medieval city centre in Germany.
Erfurt has plenty of dormitories, with a total of 11 dormitories since the winter semester 2019, most of which are located on or near the campus, with a few located elsewhere in the city. Each dormitory offers 2-4 single rooms with Wi-Fi and basic furniture. Depending on the conditions of the dormitory facilities, the cost of a shared apartment (WG) is about 150 euros/month (shared kitchen and bathroom), the cost of a single apartment (Einzelappartement) is about 250 euros/month, if there is a partner and children can apply for a separate family room. A deposit is required upon check-in and fully refundable upon check-out if there is no problem. Applicants (including university language students) can submit their application online on the Thuringian University Residence website prior to admission and submit their registration certificate within one month of the start of the semester.

There is a main dining hall and three coffee bars on campus. The main canteen serves breakfast and lunch on weekends and holidays (including summer and winter holidays). Students with a student ID will spend between 1.5 and 4.50 euros per meal.
The academic year is divided into winter and summer semesters, starting in April and October respectively.

Students studying at the University of Erfurt are required to take out public health insurance (DAK/AOK/TK), which costs around €90 per month for students under 30 years of age.
