When the router is upgraded through tftp, it always fails. How to upgrade the router successfully? See below for details.

TFTP Software upgrade method

1. Run the TFTP software

Open the decompressed upgrade software folder. The contents in the folder are as follows:

Note: In this example, WR710N is used as an example. The actual product model prevails.

Right-click tftpd32.exe and select Run as administrator (double-click tftpd32 directly on XP), as shown below.

The window displayed after running the software is as follows, which you can minimize but cannot close (the window will not close until the upgrade is complete).

2. Upgrade

After running TFTP, log in to the router interface, click System Tools >> Software Upgrade, make sure that the file name displayed is the same as the name of the BIN file in the upgrade software folder, and click Upgrade, as shown in the following figure.

Click OK in the prompt box as shown below.

Do not power off the router during the upgrade. Otherwise, the router will be damaged. The router restarts automatically after the upgrade is successful. The whole process takes about 2-3 minutes, please wait patiently.

If the upgrade fails, rectify the fault according to the upgrade error message:

Type 1: Code 18000- Check tftp server and upload file directory

The error message is as follows:

Please check and confirm:

[1] The corresponding software has been downloaded and decompressed correctly.

[2] The TFTP upgrade software in the upgrade package has been started.

If no TFTP server is included in the upgrade package, it indicates that the software is not upgraded in TFTP mode. You can try an earlier version of the software.

[3] The file name of the upgrade page is the same as that in the folder after decompression, as shown in the following figure:

Note: If the file name is different, it means that you downloaded the file (software and hardware version) is wrong, please download again.

Type 2: Code: 18001- Upload file error

The error message is as follows:
