网络协议

Network protocol

Details >>

A set of rules, standards, or conventions established for the exchange of data in a computer network. For example, when a computer user and a mainframe operator communicate on a network, the commands entered by the operators do not recognize each other because the two data terminals use different character sets. In order to be able to communicate, it is stipulated that each terminal must convert the characters in its own character set into the characters of the standard character set before entering the network transmission, and then convert them into the characters of the terminal character set after reaching the destination terminal. Of course, for incompatible terminals, in addition to the need to transform the character set characters, other characteristics need to be converted, such as display format, line length, number of lines, screen scrolling mode, etc., also need to be transformed accordingly.

Common protocol

TCP/IP protocol is undoubtedly the most important of these three protocols, as the basic protocol of the Internet, it is impossible to surf the Internet without it, any operation related to the Internet can not be separated from TCP/IP protocol. However, TCP/IP protocol is also one of the most troublesome to configure these three protocols, single Internet access is fine, and through the LAN to access the Internet, it is necessary to set IP address, gateway, subnet mask, DNS server and other parameters.

Although TCP/IP is the most popular network protocol at present, the communication efficiency of TCP/IP in the local area network is not high, and when using it to browse the computer in the "network neighbor", it often fails to browse normally. Installing the NetBEUI protocol solves this problem.

NetBEUI NetBiosEnhancedUserInterface, or NetBios enhance the user interface. It is an enhanced version of the NetBIOS protocol and has been used by many operating systems, such as WindowsforWorkgroup, Windows 9X series, WindowsNT, etc. The NETBEUI protocol is useful in many situations and is the default protocol for operating systems prior to WINDOWS98. NetBEUI protocol is a compact, efficient broadcast protocol that does not need to be set up after installation, and is especially suitable for transmitting data in "network neighbors". Therefore, it is recommended that in addition to the TCP/IP protocol, the NetBEUI protocol can also be installed on the computer of the small LAN. Another point to note is that if a WINDOWS98 machine with only TCP/IP protocol wants to join the WINNT domain, it must also install the NetBEUI protocol.

The IPX/SPX protocol was originally developed by Novell specifically for the NetWare network, but it is also very commonly used - most games available online support IPX/SPX, such as StarCraft, Counter-Strike, and so on. While these games can also be connected via TCP/IP, IPX/SPX is obviously much easier because no setup is required at all. Beyond that, the IPX/SPX protocol doesn't seem to be very useful in non-local area networks. If you decide not to play the game online on a local area network, then this protocol is optional.
