Creation background
Inspired by the popularity of young people when the "Soldier" episode of the CCTV documentary "Life for the first Time" was aired in 2020, the creator of the film came up with the idea of creating a documentary on the subject of military recruits. Zhang Xin, the director, said that the original intention of the film was to show how the army trained ordinary people with different ideas into real PLA soldiers with consistent thinking and dedication in six months. In the face of the beginning of the recruitment season, there are countless shooting directions and character story lines to choose, producer Zhang Hao determined three selection principles: diversity, representation, and drama. The film took six months to shoot, covering 20,000 kilometers, the crew went deep into the new training base of the army, navy and air force, ate and lived with the new recruits, got up early and got dark, and overcame many difficulties such as limited team size, inconvenient transportation, and altitude sickness
