Font introduction

Modak is a free, open source, heavy German-Latin font display font. The design began as an exploration of the lettering form with a heavy hand sketch. Characters are cute/round, not bulky/stiff. Consonants and Matras are overlapping rather than consecutive characters. Conjunctions are drawn in fused form, where two independent characters will merge with each other. The challenge is to maintain legibility and consistency across all characters, regardless of their structural complexity. To turn this into a functional font, we designed additional Matras to match each character exactly, leaving a thin counter space between the two. Custom Ukars is designed for each character. The resulting font is one of its types and is probably the fattest Devanagari font ever designed.

Font installation
