At the end of the late Qing Dynasty, the Chinese nation was in danger from internal troubles and foreign attacks. The failure of the reformist reform movement, Sun Yat-sen The leading revolutionaries were determined to overthrow the Qing government by revolution and establish a republican system.
From 1895 to 1910, the revolutionaries launched several uprisings, Qiu Jin , Xu Xilin When a number of pioneers of the revolutionary Party died successively, the revolution fell into a low tide.
At the end of 1910, Sun Yat-sen once again gathered the cadres of the Tongmenghui overseas and organized the forces to prepare for an uprising in Guangzhou. Huang Xing and Xu Zonghan disguised themselves as husband and wife and secretly infiltrated Guangzhou. However, the Battle of Guangzhou was finally defeated because the revolutionary Party was outnumbered, and a large number of revolutionary backbone such as Lin Juemin died heroically. Huang Xing He was also seriously wounded. Xu Zonghan and others risked their lives to collect and bury the remains of 72 martyrs, buried outside Guangzhou Huanghuagang .
After this uprising, the Qing government carried out a bloody crackdown on the revolutionaries, while actively seeking traitorous deals with imperialism.
In Sichuan, the Qing court once again lost power and humiliated the country, which triggered the vigorous road protection movement, and the new army in Hubei was urgently withdrawn to suppress. In Wuchang, the revolutionary party list of the new army leaked, Huguang Governor Rui Cheng began to kill the revolutionary party on the list one by one, the revolutionary situation is very critical, revolutionary party Xiong Bingkun, Jin Zhaolong and so on fired the first shot of the revolution. After a night of fierce fighting, Wuchang Uprising The revolutionary army captured the governor's house, Li Yuanhong was urgent push to the military junta governor.
Wuchang Uprising The nation was shocked by the success, and the news reached the United States, where Sun Yat-sen and the members of the Tongmenghui rejoiced. Huang Xing and Xu Zonghan were immediately sent to the Wuchang battlefield, which greatly boosted the morale of the revolutionary army. At the cost of blood and life to defend the three towns of Wuhan flying the revolutionary red flag. After so much baptism of blood and fire, Huang Xing and Xu Zonghan's feelings continue to sublimate, two people decided to become a revolutionary couple to continue to fight side by side.
The misty Qing court had to ask Yuan Shikai to come out of the mountains and lead the Beiyang Army to suppress the revolution. On the one hand, Yuan Shikai suppressed the revolutionary army, on the other hand, he still tried to secretly convey his desire for peace talks with the Revolutionary Party through Wang Jingwei, a revolutionary Party member, in the game of various forces.
At the critical moment of the revolution, Sun Yat-sen went overseas, tried to overcome the opposition, and finally persuaded the Western nations to stop lending money to support the Qing court.
The Yangxia defense battle was extremely fierce, and Huang Xing and Li Yuanhong struggled to support it. Under the attack of various reactionary forces, Huang Xing resolutely decided to withdraw his troops to the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and gather their strength for a great cause.
The Yangtze River battleship was on the move, and news came that many provinces had declared independence, and Huang Xing was encouraged.
Since then, the revolutionary situation has entered the confrontation between the north and the south. After many efforts, the representatives of the North and the South, Tang Shaoyi and Wu Tingfang, finally sat down to talk. After difficult negotiations, the two sides reached a consensus and supported the establishment of a republican government. Sun Yat-sen was elected as the first president after an open democratic election of representatives of 18 provinces. Sun Yat-sen said that as long as Yuan Shikai urged the Qing emperor to abdicate, he could step down, and the person who forced the Qing to step down would become the president of the Republic of China. • Jackie Chan and Li Bingbing's Huang Xing and Xu Zonghan had a passionate scene in the film, but director Zhang Li cut it because he felt it didn't fit the tone of the film. [8]
  • The scriptwriters have cleverly captured the events of the period 1911-1912.
  • Both Wang Jingwei and Sun Yat-sen represented the emerging political forces at that time, and both had new political ideas, but the scenes were far apart.
  • The same director of the film, talking about the division of labor with Jackie Chan, Zhang Li revealed, "The scene execution is me, rough cut he wants to see the sample and provide advice." He is a man of great professional ability." [9]

Creation background

"Revolution of 1911" by the Changying Group, Shanghai Film Group and other units jointly produced, gathered Jackie Chan, Li Bingbing, Zhao Wenxuan, Sun Chun and other more than 70 Chinese stars joined the performance. The film begins the plot with four chapters: the blood of Huanghuagang, the First Yi of Wuchang City, the Yangxia Defense Battle, and the establishment of a republican system, telling the story of the failure of the reform. Sun Yat-sen , Huang Xing They overthrew the imperial system and established the history of the republic, and commemorated the great revolution of 1911 with the artistic expression of film. [9]

Shooting process

In addition to Jackie Chan fighting assassins in the cabin, there are plenty of battle scenes to show the brave sacrifice of the pioneers of the revolution. There are five fierce battle scenes in the film, including field battles, water battles, and street battles. It is reported that in order to restore the tragedy of the war, increase the sense of reality, the director Zhang Li used almost documentary method to shoot the scene, the photographer he also used special photography technology to shoot the actors non-stop moving and bullets flying dangerous scenes.
One particularly tough scene, filmed in an open-pit coal mine field in Fuxin, Liaoning province, appears to be rolling but is actually dangerous, with many spontaneous fires, so it has not yet been opened to the public. The "trench" of the revolutionary army is located at the bottom of a pit up to 200 meters deep, and it takes more than ten minutes to drive down. The huge pit of the coal mine is a natural barrier, which can prevent the lens from penetrating during the film shooting, and even avoid outside interference, which is very suitable for shooting large-scale war scenes. [8]

Casting process

Chan not only co-directs the film with director Zhang Li, but also stars alongside Li Bingbing as Huang Xing and his wife, and his son Jaycee Chan also stars in the film. The role of Sun Yat-sen is played by Taiwanese actress Vivian Chiu. Yuan Shikai, like "Toward the Republic," is still played by Zhang Li's old partner Sun Chun. Zhang Li revealed that the Revolution of 1911 positioned Yuan Shikai first as an opportunist. [9]

Film evaluation

EDITOR
"Revolution of 1911" as a centennial celebration of 1911, director Zhang Li in the film not only faithfully reproduced many historical figures, but also the most landmark five battles in the revolution of 1911 with Huang Xing, Xu Zonghan and other people as the core, in-depth depiction, its sense of the mirror and the sense of history is comparable to the classic American war film" Saving Private Ryan The grand theme of the Revolution of 1911 is presented to the audience from a full range of dynamic perspectives.
If the revolution of 1911 is a grand epic, then the famous battles of Huanghuagang uprising, Wuchang uprising and Yangxia Defense Battle have become heavy and powerful keywords to annotate the "Revolution of 1911". This time, the "Revolution of 1911" is a depiction of these classic battles, highlighting the unique beauty of war art with lens aesthetics. The narration of the street battles of the Guangzhou uprising and the position battles of the Yangxia Defense War in the Revolution of 1911 not only represents the highest level of Chinese films in the big scene, but also in some aspects and details, such as Huang Xing's increasingly frustrated and courageous in the face of multiple failed uprisings, and Lin Juomin's Book With his Wife, which promotes the call of humanity and love in the war to the extreme.
From the brutal street battles of the Guangzhou Uprising to the gunfire of the Yangxia Defense Battle, The Revolution of 1911 connects war with faith and humanity through a series of shocking scenes. Director Zhang Li, who is a photographer by training, shows his specialty in this film. The war scenes that appear in the Revolution of 1911 show excellent visual impact. The intensity of the war scenes plays a role in rendering emotions at the action level, which is indispensable in a historical film involving war. In modern movies, accurate scene real props and fine art is the peripheral basis of a good movie, even if the story of Saving Private Ryan is moving and unforgettable, if there is no such as a series of suffocating visual effects such as beach landing, sniper duel, hunting tanks, it seems to lack the texture of war. Therefore, the content is important, but the form should not be ignored. At this point, Zhang Li's grasp of the scene in the Revolution of 1911 can be described as handy.
While connecting the battle scenes with characters, plot and history, director Zhang Li also uses a large number of close-up shots to capture the delicate expressions of the characters at the moment of battle: A series of shots, such as Lin Juemin running between the flying sand and rocks with his gun, Yu Peilun rushing to the Qing soldiers at the risk of his life, Huang Xing lying on his back in the battlefield, captured the facial expressions of the characters at a super-close distance, allowing the camera to get close to the subjects and show the expressions of people in the war. Only by creating a huge conflict through vision can the audience have a strong shock, a sense of substitution, and thus be attracted. What we pursue is spiritual reality."
In contrast to the previous Move towards republicanism Compared to Zhang Li, we see the change, although the history is still that history, the director is still the director, Yuan Shikai is still the same Sun Chun, but the film is not a TV series, the war and politics in the film, need more powerful, more shocking expression techniques, need more rigorous aesthetic considerations.
