Yao graduated from the High School Affiliated to Northeast Normal University in 2004. In the same year, he was admitted to the Broadcasting and Hosting Art major of the School of Broadcasting and Hosting Art of Beijing Broadcasting Institute (Communication University of China). In 2008, he graduated from the Communication University of China and then entered the School of International Communication of the University of Leeds to study international journalism.
