Film evaluation

broadcast
EDITOR
"Not One Less" tells a simple, rustic yet touching story, with a warmth and sweetness that audiences find hard to resist. The film is somewhat similar to the practice of Italian neorealist films, using non-professional actors, real scenes and natural light shooting, and a large number of medium-range, calm and restrained long shots to maintain the objectivity and integrity of space and performance. The film embodies Zhang Yimou's superb artistic control, realism style, pure to simple; Through the design of the scene, editing and the use of music, sensational but not vulgar. However, beyond the artistic level, perhaps the greater significance of the film lies in its insight into social reality [7] .
However, Zhang Yimou's way of solving the contradictions in reality is a little too idealistic [7] The film ends with the children writing and drawing in colored chalk, a typical romantic ending. A film can change a person's fate, but it can not change the poor and backward education of a region; A director can paint the ending of his film with a romantic touch, but he cannot paint the grim social reality with the same romantic touch [25] .
