In 1958, Guangdong Amateur University of Science and Technology was founded by the Guangdong Provincial Association of Science and Technology (former Federation of Science and Technology), located in the Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Museum. Its main tasks are to carry out national college education, on-the-job training, continuing education and science and technology development.
In 1964, the Guangdong Provincial Bureau of Higher Education issued a document approving the school's record.
In 1966, Guangdong Amateur University of Science and Technology was abolished.

In 2005, Guangdong Adult University of Science and Technology was upgraded to Guangdong Technical College of Engineering.
