Charlotte enjoyed the favour of Tsar Peter the Great, but lived a secluded life in her own court, which was made up almost entirely of foreigners and led by her eldest cousin Princess Julianna Louise von Ostfriesland. At first, her marriage to Alexei was happy, but his drinking soon began to strain their relationship. Peter often took his son to war activities, further isolating Charlotte. In the early weeks of their marriage, Peter had ordered her to return to Petersburg without him and his son, but she had already run back to her father's palace. Peter retrieves her, but instead of showing anger, placates her and tells her that she can visit her family anytime, but must tell him in the future. Alexei also had a public relationship with Avsinia, which began during Charlotte's short life and continued after her death. Charlotte had daughter Natalia and son, the later Tsar of Russia

I got some comfort in my birth. She died a month after her son was born. Both her daughter and son died young and had no offspring.
