The College de la Sorbonne is the seminary of the University of Paris, France. It was founded in 1253 in Paris by the theologian Robert de Sorbon (1201-1274). It soon became the nucleus of the University of Paris, which Sorbonne himself had held since 1258 University of Paris Headmaster. So the word "Sorbonne" became a proxy for the entire University of Paris.
