Normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan
They had a serious and frank exchange of views on various issues between the two countries, as well as other issues of mutual interest, and agreed to issue the following joint statement by the two governments:

A strip of water
Our neighbors have a long history of traditional friendship. The two peoples yearn for an end to the abnormal state that has hitherto existed between them.
State of war
The normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan and the realization of such aspirations of the two peoples will open a new page in the history of bilateral relations.
The Japanese side is keenly aware of its responsibility for the great damage it caused to the Chinese people in the past as a result of the war, and expresses deep remorse. The Japanese side reiterates its view that it seeks to realize the normalization of Japan-China diplomatic relations from the standpoint of fully understanding the "three Principles for the resumption of diplomatic relations" put forward by the Government of the People's Republic of China. The Chinese side welcomed this.

No, peaceful and friendly relations should and can be established. The normalization of diplomatic relations and the development of good-neighborly and friendly relations between the two countries serve the interests of the two peoples and contribute to easing tensions in Asia and safeguarding world peace.
(1) As of the date of publication of this Statement, the hitherto abnormal state of affairs between the People's Republic of China and Japan shall come to an end.

The Government of the People's Republic of China reaffirms that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the territory of the People's Republic of China. The Japanese government fully understands and respects this position of the Chinese government and adheres to it

7. The normalization of China-Japan diplomatic relations is not aimed at any third country. Neither country should be in the middle of a conflict in Asia

Seeking hegemony, each side opposes the efforts of any other country or group to establish such hegemony.
(8) The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Japan, in order to consolidate and develop peaceful and friendly relations between the two countries, agree to hold negotiations for the purpose of concluding a treaty of peace and friendship.
(9) The Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Japan, with a view to further developing relations and expanding personnel exchanges between the two countries, agree to conduct negotiations for the purpose of concluding agreements on trade, navigation, aviation and fisheries, as necessary and taking into account existing non-governmental agreements.
