The Winter Games of the People's Republic of China, referred to as the "National Winter Games" or "Winter Games", are the largest and highest-level winter comprehensive sports events in China, held every four years, the first held in February 1959 Harbin City and Jilin City Hold.
On October 25, 2023, The General Office of the State Council agreed that Liaoning Province would host the 15th National Winter Games in 2028. [13]

The Winter Games of the People's Republic of China, referred to as the "National Winter Games" or "Winter Games", is the largest and highest-level winter multi-sport event in China. The first National Winter Games were held in February 1959 Harbin City and Jilin City Since then, it has been basically held every four years, and has been held 13 times (the second session has been suspended but the second session is counted). The 1st to 4th sessions were held as winter events of the National Games, together with the summer events of the National Games as one event. After 1983, the Winter Games were separated from the national Games and held separately. [1]

The first session

The first National Games in 1959 did not have ice and snow events, but ice and snow events were held separately in February as a comprehensive games, called "1959 National Winter Games". The skiing event was held in Jilin City and the ice event was held in Harbin, with 12 participating units including Beijing. Among them, 122 athletes (including 42 junior athletes) from 5 units participated in the skiing event.

The second term

In 1965, the second National Games were held, which still did not include winter events, and because the ice and snow events did not hold similar comprehensive games as the first National Winter Games, there was no second National Winter Games at all, and it was suspended for one session.

The third session

The 3rd National Winter Games were hosted by Harbin, Heilongjiang Province from January 16 to 26 and February 18 to 23, 1976, with 972 athletes from 14 teams participating. There are five events in speed skating, figure skating, ice hockey, alpine skiing and cross-country skiing.

The fourth session

Subject article: The 4th Winter Games of the People's Republic of China
The 4th National Winter Games was held in 1979 in Shangzhi City, Heilongjiang Province, Urumqi City, Xinjiang Province, and Beijing. The competition events included speed skating, figure skating, ice hockey, alpine skiing, and cross-country skiing, with a total of 60 minor events in 5 sub-events. There were 227 athletes from 12 units (139 of whom were junior athletes).

The fifth session

The 5th National Winter Games was held in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province from March 12 to 22, 1983, with 49 events in 7 disciplines including figure skating, speed skating, short track speed skating, ice hockey, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing and modern biathlon.

The sixth

The 6th National Winter Games were hosted by Jilin City, Jilin Province from March 8 to 16, 1987. A total of 15 delegations and 573 athletes participated in eight disciplines, namely speed skating, short track skating, figure skating, ice hockey, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon and ski jumping.

The seventh session

Subject article: The 7th Winter Games of the People's Republic of China
The 7th National Winter Games were hosted by Harbin, Heilongjiang Province from February 2 to February 9, 1991.
There are 35 delegations participating in the games. The games will feature 57 events in 8 disciplines including speed skating, figure skating, ice hockey, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, biathlon and ski jumping, and one performance event - freestyle skiing (two events).

The eighth

The 8th National Winter Games were hosted by Jilin City, Jilin Province from January 14 to January 24, 1995.
579 ice and snow athletes from 33 teams across the country participated in 58 events in 9 sub-events.

ninth

The 9th National Winter Games were held in Changchun, Jilin Province from January 10 to 19, 1999, with a total of 30 delegations and 1168 athletes participating. The Winter Games will be held in nine disciplines: speed skating, short track speed skating, figure skating, ice hockey, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, ski jumping, freestyle skiing and biathlon. The tenth

The 10th National Winter Games (abbreviated as the 10th Winter Games) was held in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province from January 5 to January 18, 2003. The 10th Winter Games included 74 events in 10 sports, and 846 athletes from 34 delegations participated in the games. [2-3]

The eleventh

The 11th National Winter Games were held in Qiqihar, Heilongjiang Province from January 18 to January 28, 2008. This Winter Games will have a total of 11 sub-events and 90 sub-events. More than 1,000 athletes from 35 delegations including Beijing participated in this Winter Games, setting new records in the number of participants, events and scale of the games. [4]

The twelfth session

The 12th National Winter Games will be held from January 3 to January 13, 2012 Jilin Province Hosted, this Winter Games is the first large-scale comprehensive winter games hosted by the provincial government, 5 major events, 12 sub-events, 105 minor events attracted a total of 43 delegations 1067 athletes to participate. The thirteenth

The 13th National Winter Games (abbreviated as the 13th Winter Games) will be held from January 20 to January 30, 2016 Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Hold. [9] The 13th Winter Games is a comprehensive national Winter Games approved by The State Council, hosted by the General Administration of Sport of the State and hosted by the People's Government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is the first time for Xinjiang to host a national comprehensive Games. [6]

fourteenth

On January 26, 2020, the Organizing committee of the 14th National Winter Games announced that the "14th Winter" will be postponed by the notice of the State General Administration of Sport. [7]
On December 27, 2022, according to the revised General Regulations of the 14th Winter Games of the People's Republic of China issued by the General Office of the General Administration of Sport of the State, the 14th Winter Games of the People's Republic of China will be held in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region from February 17 to 27, 2024 [11] .
On July 20, 2023, in the open group competition of women's ice hockey at the 14th National Winter Games, Guangdong Women's ice hockey team defeated Shaanxi Team 8-0 and won the championship in advance. [12]
In November 2023, in the women's single snowmobile competition of the 14th National Winter Games, Huai Mingming of Jilin team won the gold medal, Ying Qing of Shanghai team and Tan Yinghui of Chongqing Team won the second and third place respectively. [14]
Yan Wengang of Tianjin Team won the gold medal, Yin Zheng of Hebei Team and Chen Wenhao of Liaoning team won the second and third place respectively in the men's steel frame snowmobile competition of the 14th National Snowmobile Games held at the National Snowmobile Center on November 25, 2023. [15] Zhao Dan of Inner Mongolia won the gold medal, Song Si 姞 of Zhejiang Province and Li Yuxi of Sichuan Team won the second and third places respectively in the women's steel frame snowmobile competition at the 14th National Snowmobile Center on the same day. On Feb 17, 2024, the opening ceremony of the 14th National Winter Games will be held at the speed skating hall of Hulunbuir Ice Sports Training Center. After the opening ceremony, the staff will completely evacuate the stage in a short time, so that the speed skating hall will continue to be used for subsequent events. [18]
On the evening of Feb 27, 2024, the closing ceremony of the 14th National Winter Games was held in Hulunbuir, Inner Mongolia. [19] Liaoning "15th Winter" performance with the theme of "Winter Rhyme between the mountains and the sea", will focus on the white mountains and black water, showing Liaoning's expectations for the winter Games. The fifteenth

On December 31, 2021, Liaoning Province submitted the bid report for the 15th National Winter Games in 2027 to the State General Administration of Sport. [8]
On October 25, 2023, The General Office of the State Council released the Letter of The General Office of the State Council on agreeing to host the 15th National Winter Games in 2028 in Liaoning Province. [13]
